The Team Portrait ART TEAM BUILDING

This is not a traditional portrait of people's faces.

Each person contributes something that represents who they are and what they bring to the team.

We begin with the question: “What is one thing you bring to this team?” 

It could be: a skill, an attitude, a personal quality, experience, knowledge, energy, creativity, humor, patience, leadership. Instead of writing the answer, participants represent it visually. Someone might draw a compass. Someone might create a bridge. Someone might choose a particular color. Someone might paint a tree with deep roots. Someone might create a completely abstract form. Sharing step... each person briefly explains their symbol.

Then the artist asks team to build one portrait from separated elements. The group begins combining them. They decide: what should be central, what should connect, what should remain separate, what is missing, what represents the team as a whole. A professional artist guides the team throughout the process, sharing practical insights into composition, colour, balance and design, while facilitating the group’s creative thinking, encouraging collaboration, interpretation and individual responses to the evolving artwork. The balance and hierarchy of artistic elements help the group visualise the dynamics within their collective, encouraging greater awareness of different roles, relationships and perspectives, and supporting a more cohesive understanding of the team as a whole.

Once the portrait is finished we make a question: "if this artwork represents who we are today, what would we like to add to it in the future?”

That creates a natural bridge between team identity and development. We make hypothetical ideas about the future, without representing the portrait in this team-building session. However, it can be done in a following session in the case of a two-day retreat.
