The Visual Puzzle ART TEAM BUILDING

Each participant receives only one part of a larger visual puzzle.

Nobody initially knows what the complete image is. The challenge is to reconstruct the whole picture through observation, communication and collaboration.

How it works

The artist prepares in advance (paints manually or using CG) a large artwork with the specific topic or artistic theme ordered by the company and dedicated to the corporate goal, this composition is divided into separate sections. Each participant receives one section (or group of participants). They can see their own piece, but not everyone else's. At first, they have to study their fragment.

Then the artist says: “Your task is to reconstruct the whole image together.”

Participants begin describing what they see.

They have to discover:

• which pieces connect;

• which colors continue;

• which shapes belong together;

• where their information overlaps;

• what they cannot know individually.

Gradually, the group starts constructing the larger image.

The interesting moment

Eventually someone realizes: “We are all looking at different parts of the same thing.”

The group has to move from individual information to a shared understanding.

Final discussion

Once the puzzle is complete, artist may ask: “What could you see from your position that others couldn't?”, “How did you decide whom to listen to?”, “What changed when you saw the whole picture?”
